The Great Western Greenway
The world class Great Western Greenway located between Newport and Mulranny-soon to be extended to Westport- is an 18km traffic free cycling and walking facility which follows the line of the famous Newport/Mulranny Railway.
An official access point is located just off the N59 less than 1km from Hotel Newport.
Newport – Mulranny Section
The world-class Greenway offers users gentle gradients, in an off-road environment and passes through some of the west of Ireland’s renowned idyllic scenery. On your journey you pass Furnace Lough and Lough Feeagh followed by Bengorm and the Nephin Beg Range on you right while on the approach to Mulranny you can enjoy wonderful views of Clew Bay on your left.
The National Cycle Network is being developed throughout Ireland and now has a number of Cycle Hub Towns located across the country. Each hub town has a number of looped cycle routes consisting of half day & day cycles. This Greenway route forms part of the National Cycle Network and is the longest off road cycling experience in Ireland.
